Today I used editwrx for the first time and as far I can see now it is a CMS I can highly recommend.
As an admin you can set up o lot of things for the (different) user but it's is very logical and I had no problem figuring everything out.
The installation was the user-friendliest I have ever seen.
So...

One problem with EdirWRX is it MUST use internet explorer. Second - the pages will NOT validate with the EditWRX code. One program that gets around both issues is SnippitMaster |

Yeah I know,
I read your 'discussion' with the developer of editwrx. What a character!
However, my clients don't really care about validation (or have ever heard about it) and are not unwilling to use IE.
So for now I am gonna give it try with a few websites.
I haven't used snippetmaster, is it any good?

OMG - the Holy One was right - your sins come back to haunt you. hehe This guy from EditWRX tends to get irritable. Check out a few other threads on his site. |

Snippetmaster--free version works good, but files must be writeable to the world [666]-not good.you could login to change them, but that defeats the purpose. Snippetmaster developer tries to set minds at ease here--and makes a case... http://www.snippetmaster.com/forums/index.php/topic,1094.0.html
editwrx works with 644 not writeable to the world and is therfore more secure--but 29.00 per domain or 89.00 for unlimited--not a bad price for the unlimited version--I think snippetmaster is $25/$75.or whatever you can afford??
does anyone have a problem leaving the files at 666 for snippetmaster--after reading the link from above.... |

I installed snippetmaster on my hosts server and i must say it all went very smooth. No problems at all. Thanks for the tip joneq.
I read the security topic on snippetmaster's forum too. I think the developer is right. There is a certain risk because you make files accessable for several php-applications. But an intruder has to login to the server first and install an application before he can do any harm. So it is important to secure your login name and pass. And of course you should only make files writable which you intent to use with snippetmaster. I think it is reasonable risk.

That was richinri that mentioned it here, but it has been mentioned many times before.
As long as the customer approves it[the risk--even small] I say go for it.
I will add the following for anyone interested. It is sort of related
For some reason I actually prefer a full blown cms.I just really play with them. This is not my business.I have like 20 installed to play with when i have time..I am by no means an expert on any of them, One I really like/love looks like this
http://aycu37.webshots.com/image/47956/2000428132390491377_rs.jpg
only after you login to the admin does the box on the bottom right appears. You click on whichever you want to edit and fck editor[or another]opens up for total editing. You can add more choices to the box.
In admin you add/do everything else like more pages edit css add images.

This particular cms [immerse cms] was abandoned by it's main developer and has since been taken up by a group comprised of people that love it and want it to continue. They remaed it openleaf cms. The original developer has since hinted he may take it up again--he is very good at it..So there may be 2 versions..
The original files are still available and it can be installed quite easily. it is very stable and there is no severe learning curve, but definitely not a simple as snippetmaster. All in all--a great product and free for commercial use.
files can be dl here from the link at the bottom and a link to the openleaf website is at the top---very dead community....

Can you use dhe to change the layout?
Or do we have to work with templates. |

I have tried many times to import that page [and others] into dhe and get jibberish. It is valid xhtml...--I have never been able to import any site not made with dhe into dhe to edit. How it would change the code is another story.
Can a page be created in dhe and made into a template for a cms-- I don't know.
If I was going to try it I think I would use MODX and not immerse, for no other reason than its maturity and the fact that there is loads of documentation.
www.modxcms.com
I need documentation man....Plus the community is very active and helpfull--you can wait days/weeks in the immerse community--hopefully that changes now that it is being developed somewhat actively again
It is a fantastic cms to boot. won an award for most promising--Drupal won for best cms--I don't like it, but never really gave it a chance...
here is how to make a template in modx. Possibly the simplest explanation. Not too different in immerse
http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Beginner%27s_Guide_to_MODx
As you can see in the documentation, you use the source code to make the template and the source for the vista template created in dhe is different than it would be in another editor.
Modx is a great cms . the advantage it has over immerse is it is constantly being developed and there are soooo many addons to do whatever you want--the learning curve is not too deep at all especially for the basic stuff. I am not an expert by any means..

A pitty that a Microsoft IIS server is required together with an Acces database. Almost all my sites are on Apache servers with MySql. |

You can make a basic cms in D-Html using PHP and javascript, I created one for a client, has a few small bugs but works pretty well. Hopefully I will get time in the future to expand it. |
