Hi

please have a look at www.gantner-norge.no

I discovered that firefox 5.0 on Windows 7, displays my website wrong
Mainly fonts are displayed bigger than configured, resulting in text overlapping.

I checked with a friend who makes professional websites, but he couldn't figure out yet what the exact problem is

IE is working fine

Could you please look into this?

PS: if you don't have Windows7, please give me an email address so that I can send some screenshots.

Yes, the problem persists also in my PC, can you send me the source .dhe file? Maybe the font you used is not web safe; try also to change it from "Arial Narrow" to "Arial"

Hi

I sent you the dhe.file at xxxxxxxxx
I experimented with changing to Arial from Arial Narrow, but this doesn't seem to solve the problem

It worked fine on previous releases of FF, also on Windows 7.

Let me know what you will find out

I checked it for you and I have also this overlapping text ..The strange part is that I checked it on my laptop and it is ok, but on my pc monitor which is 30 inch (sorry) and a resolution of 2560x1600 this overlapping text appears. I also had to change some websites of my customers because also the text was overlapping, they did not complain but they also don't have such a monitor. What is your size of the monitor by the way? Maybe the resolution is an issue and helps Davide.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. My resolution is 1280x800.
Ajusting zoom level didn't help any. Thanks for the article though.

There really should be univesal fix rsally. Even if I would change some settings on my laptop that would fix the issue for myself, still my customers might have to deal with the problem still.

I guess I'll just wait until Davide is back...

Hello gerwin,

I checked the sample and done some tests; here some considerations:
- As the "Arial Narrow" font was not installed by default in my Win7 I saw the page in a wrong way also in the editor
- I changed the font from "Arial Narrow" to "Arial" using the Batch Manager then adjusted the page layout
- Previewing the page in Firefox caused the problem also with "Arial" so I removed an option in FF (Let Firefox to choose its own fonts instead of those selected by the page > this is a translation because I have FF in italian)
- the layout in this manner was good but the font used very ugly because it was not Arial but a strange clone of Courier New
- I tried also to set fixed "interline" in DHE and in this way the problem seems to be solved
- by the way, IMO you should use only a big label in that case (select some labels then choose "Merge Selected Labels" and you'll obtain a big label always formatted in a good way)

so:
1- try to set Interline to each label of that page
2- merge labels
3- change the font used from "Arial Narrow" to someother web compatible

In the meantime we need to do some other tests, maybe we'll be able to find a good solution.

Regards, Davide

Hi Davide,

Thanks a lot for the suggestions.
I'm travelling away on a 10 day holiday now, but will work on the issues when I'm back in August

I will then consider a new font for the whole webpage. Do you have any suggestions of any font which would fit nicely, consider the lay out that I have used now?

another question:

1- try to set Interline to each label of that page. How do I do this, and what is the function?

"by the way, IMO you should use only a big label in that case"

In which case? Do you suggest any changes in the way I have worked with the text on the page? FYI, I have used seperate text boxes per page, in order to be able to add H1, H2 and H3 references in the htm. file. Please check my source file online..

What is the basic guideline for merging labels? When should I merge labels and when not?

Thanks again!!

@gerwin,

In the label editor you'll find the interline setting

> Do you suggest any changes in the way I have worked with the text on the page

IMO is better to use only 1 label instead of many, specially when you are working with absolute positioning mode
As you edit the page adding <h1> etc tags I haven't a solution; maybe in the next version I'll add this ability

I also still have this issue. I have now created one long label but the flags next to it don't align in FF like they are in IE8. Esepcially notice the french flag.

I have changed almost everything to relative positioning and this helped a bit but did not solve the flags next to each language:-(. Any solutions to that anyone?

Feel free to take a look at http://www.noordnedtrans.nl/hoofdstuk3.html

The reason I did not change everything to a relative positioning is because I use a few images on top of which there are some other images and one label. These collide.

Martin the flags seem to align with the labels in FF 14. However I only see two flags Dutch and German. Have you tried a table?

@Martin,

check on the page options, there is a new option called "Check and fix browsers wrong labels size"; this will solve your problems, also if you use completely Absolute positioned pages...
