When I place a picture in DHE 4, I get a black square instead of a picture. No matter which jpeg, and it happens normal jpeg images as wel as with slide shows.
Did I do anything wrong installing DHE? |

Explain your method for "placing a picture" and maybe there is some step you have overlooked. |

nope. doesn't help. I am getting a little bit nervous now. I have a client waiting for me to make a quick "under construction" site. If this goes well, I could get more assignments from her. If it doesn't, well, you understand. maybe it was auite stupid of me to upgrade to 4.0 just before such an important task. But then again, I never had problems with DHE before.
Tell me what exactly do you mena by "clean the system"? I mean, uninstalling should be enough in my opinion, or does your uninstaller leave treces behind?
Please tell me another way to fix this, I have to deliver the site by tomorrow! If you could send me a privae mail that would be great!

When you import a pic have you tried clicking on the "black square" to see what attributes it has and file location? Are the squares the same dimensions as the imported pic? |

Why don't you re-install version 3.x for this one assignment? You can use both versions beside eachother. |

when I import a picture the square is exactly the same size as I indicate with my mouse. The attributes look the same as usual. Ofcourse i can re-install version 3.x but for a new site I hoped to have the new version available, because maybe I get troubles if I convert the site in the future. |

so I guess that's it? No-one of you has experienced this problem too? So there are no work-arounds? And mister Davide, do you have any more suggestions? After all, you wrote this program. I uninstalled version 3.x, did not clean up my computer (Honoustly, I do not know where to start, remember it is a WINDOWS computer, bugridden and with a register with cluttered obsolete information) and reinstalled 4.0. No results. So if you cannot figure this out, you cant write a bugfix to solve it, right? I hate to have to abandon DHE, but if I must in order to survive, I will. Please help me and try to think of something! |

wow. I realise now deinstalling all previous versions made me remove 3.x as well. so I cannot do anything anymore, since I do not have the installer for 3.x. Could anyone be so kind to send it to me? So I can at least get some work done? That would be great, thanks!!! |

re-installing 3.x gets me into the same trouble: every time I insert a picture, I get a black square. Now it gets really frustrating. |

I suppose your system has some problems, maybe a new antivirus or firewall software? Try to act as follows:
1- uninstall all versions of D.H.E. 2- clean the registry with a program like "Registry Mechanic" 3- restart Windows 3- turn off antivirus, firewall and/or any other software that may interfere (anti malware, ecc...) 4- re-install the software 5- if the program work configure the software you turned off |

Dear Davide,
My problem still exists. I have completeley wiped my system. I reinstalled Windows from scratch. I did install the programs I need for my work, Photoshop CS3, Reaper, and some other apps.
I still get the black square.
I use AVG virus scan. (as I have been doing for two years) The problem started with DHE 4.0 so I am quite sure something went wrong there. Reinstalling 3.0 did not work, so there is something wrong with the settings.
So unless you can help me, it's goodbye to DHE. My customer is getting very impatient, and I, for my part, have done every possible thing to make it work. Still I do not believe any windows program should behave like DHE does: i cannot import ANY picture into this program, I only get black squares.
The functionality of making photoshows in an easy way, is why I sold a website to a customer. Now I have to use another editor (and learn it first). If this customer walks away, it's a 1500 euros lost.
I hope you understand the urgency of this, I gotta feed my family!!
Thanks for your understanding, please help me fix this problem!!
(JTARIN: I place a picture by clicking the picture icon in the left toolbox. I selcte "picture" and then I go to the place I want to put it, and make a nice square with my mouse where I want my picture. I wait a few seconds, and a black square appears where my picture should have been).
Maybe a strange thing to say here, but if I buy software that suddenly, with an upgrade, stops working, shouldn't it be fair to at least get the money back I paid for my license? mr davide, if you do not know a solution, that would be the least you could do. I do not care for programs that suddenly stop working. Apart from all the effort I put into it learning how to use it. |

In the meantime you can continue use the "old" 3.3 version; you can download it from my site. The strange thing is that I made no changes to the picture management functions so everything should work as previous. If you want I can try to enter into your system using a program like VNC and try to use D.H.E. by myself ;-) Let me know and I'll explain you how to make such as thing. I hope you are not using a router because in this case you have to make a port-forward configuration to it. |

Dear Davide,
I was playing around with www.logmein.com, to set up a remote desktop for you, when I try the "insert image" again. For the first time the program gave me a clue, saying "this item might be too big". This had never happened before, I don't know why. Maybe This message only pops up if the image is very very big, and doesn't it show when it's just a bit too big? Anyhow, I resized it to 1024 pix and.....it worked!!!
I can remember pasting large images into the program in the past, but maybe these images are way bigger...anyhow, it works now, and I am really over the moon! Thank you for your patience and your offer to look for solutions. That won't be necessary now anymore. |
