I recently upgraded Netscape from v4.8 to v7.1. V7.1 installed several updated components. One of these (I think it is XPCOM.DLL) is now causing Dynamic HTML Editor to die on a regular basis.
So I re-installed Dynamic HTML Editor and now Netscape dies on a regular basis.
But I also have noticed another strange behavior. My connection to the Internet is via dial-up. If I dial-up the internet first and then bring up Dynamic HTML Editor my system crashes. But if I bring up Dynamic HTML Editor first and then dial in - everything is fine. (As long as I do not use Netscape.)
I've run Norton's WinDoctor, Disk Doctor, Antivirus, Bit Defender, Spybot, and all of the rest of my virus programs - no virus. Firewall is not in operation presently. So it is just the system and according to the blue screen of death there is some kind of conflict going on as per above. I've tried this about 40-50 times now in various configurations and I've narrowed it down to Netscape and Dail-up Adaptor. Any ideas would be appreciated.
System Info:
512MB memory
20GB HD
21" monitor
All items in the system dialog box show up as working properly.
56K modem

I just had a thought (one of the few it seems!).....
I was just going back over the replies and I remembered that there is an update for the VBScript used in IE. There are several holes fixed in the libraries which VBScript uses. Have you tried downloading the security updates with regards to VB? Try that and see if Dynamic HTML Editor crashes.
Just a thought.

Hello again! I was really desperate to get Dynamic HTML Editor up and running again so I could use it. So I went ahead and installed Virtual PC on my Mac. I installed the default version of Windows98se on it and will not be upgrading it! :-) Dynamic HTML Editor is back to working fine with no problems. My offer is still open if you want to send me a debug version of Dynamic HTML Editor. The other companies I have worked with include Trend Micro (PC Cillin) and Albatross Software (makes a Telnet client). Trend Micro has a debug command built in to the program so they did not have to send me a new version but Albatross Software had me try all sorts of things. :-) (It came down to a problem with my version of my motherboard on that one!)
In any event - Dynamic HTML Editor is back up and running on my Macintosh. :-)

Hi! It's me again! I did some Windows upgrades again and now the enhanced version is not working. :-/ I caught a glimpse of Dynamic HTML Editor saying that one of the installed DLLs is not the same as what Dynamic HTML Editor is looking for. All I caught was "ctl.*.dll". Is there any chance that maybe a debug version could be sent to me (or put on the site somewhere) so I could run it and it can dump all requests or something? I've done this for other companies/people and just sent back the dumps so problems could be found. I would be glad to do it for you as well. I really hate not being able to use the program. By installing the Dynamic HTML Editor Enhanced editor - everything has become stable again. I do not try to run the Dynamic HTML Editor Enhanced editor after loading Netscape but if I load it in before running Netscape - everything is fine. I would really hate to not be able to use Dynamic HTML Editor. I do not know how I got along without it! I must have been brain dead! ;-) Anyway, I will look into doing some upgrades on everything. I just finished doing so but I will see if MS has anything on its website. Thanks again to everyone! :-)

Its been awhile since I had 98SE, but if I remember correctly (something difficult to do these days..he,he) about that timeframe they went from VB5 to VB6, so there might be a version conflict.I can remember several applications I had installed that required me to upgrade. Markem you might try upgrading to the VB6 runtimes if you have never done an upgrade, chances are your running the old runtimes and the conflict could exist with some of the newer ones.
BTW...I love this editor. The placement of elements is so exact and the coding that is generated is a beautiful sight. |

Hello jtarin, I can say that my installer doesn't install any Win2000/XP components; The OLExx.dll components are installed only when they are not already present in the system.
You can try to check your OLExx.dll files, install Dynamic HTML Editor and watch if they are changed after install...
The OLExx.dll that are in my package are that provided with VB6 Package and Deployment wizard.
They have the minimal version that is required to run VB6. [2 H:)] |

Your problem is that the installer your using is including XP or Win2K version of various OLE files etc. When your installer is used on windows 98 its is overriding the win98 versions of these files with your newer XP/Win2K version. This basically corrupts the win98 system as it can not operate with the conflicting versions. To rectify the problem you need to ensure that if the installer installs any of the following files, that it installs win98 versions not XP or Win2K versions of OLEAUT32.DLL OLEPRO32.DLL Incidentally if you install Win98 versions of the above files onto a Win2K or WinXP machine then it will still work fine. So maybe best to either always include the Win98 versions or make a smarter installer that detects the OS and loads the correct version of these files. Hello markem, your problem it's very very strange... 
I can say that Dynamic HTML Editor does not install components that can change or destroy your internet connection.
The list of dlls installed by Dynamic HTML Editor is this:

The only one component that has caused the reboot of your machine is the VB6 runtime (msvbm60.dll).
I already know that my editor has some problems in win98 but I don't know why; I think this is a system dll conflict (OLEPRO32.DLL
, OLEAUT32.DLL). |

One last thing:
I have to say that I have used Visual Page 1.1.1 for quite a while. It is a really great web page design program. But after downloading Dynamic HTML Editor I have become dissatisfied with it. I even went so far as to buy (via eBay) Adobe GoLive and Microsoft's FrontPage. A friend is buying the FrontPage I bought and I am reselling Adobe GoLive on eBay. Neither of them do what Dynamic HTML Editor does as easily as Dynamic HTML Editor does it. So I'm going back to Visual Page 1.1.1 but I am using Dynamic HTML Editor to do the layouts. It just beats everything else hands down. :-) |

I downloaded Dynamic HTML Editor Enhanced just on the off chance that that would fix the problem. It did not. However, I am no longer getting the message from the system about another application has updated a component. So either the enhanced version was compiled with the new component or maybe I just haven't found what the new component was yet.
Anyway, the blue screen of death reads: Fatal Exception 0E at 01C7:BFF9DFFF.
I have a program called System Dump which will dump my system to a ZIP file if you want me to send that to someone, let me know.
With Dynamic HTML Editor Enhanced at least I can run Dynamic HTML Editor again and Netscape - but not together or else the system dies. I can live with that for now. :-) |

Your problem seem very strange! Blue screen! Wow!

I forgot to say on my System Information area that I am running Windows98se.
(Please do not ask me to upgrade to NT/2000/ME/XP. 98se works great, I have been out of a job since last January and can not afford to upgrade, and I do not like the "Big Brother is watching you" attitude of XP.)
