Davide, I've been using both standard and graphical rectangles as backgrounds for other html objects. I have discovered what appears to be a bug in v2.3. When you first create a rectangle, you can change the Position and Dimensions values. But after you close the Properties window and then open it again for the same rectangle, the Position and Dimension values are greyed-out and impossible to change. Considering that it is frequently neccessary to use these values when you need to change the objects size or position by a few pixels, this is a major problem.

Here is one of many experiences with v2.3 that make me very unwilling to buy it:

I want to fine-tune the position of an html object. I try to position it using the mouse. I select it and the object is highlighted with a box around it. The box around it makes it difficult to see where the edges of the object are so I have trouble aligning it with the html object it is associated with (yes, guides are turned on, but they don't seem to be working accurately) When I *think* it's in it's proper position, I click elsewhere to remove the highlighting so I can see the object clearly. I find it is not in the correct position. I click on the object again, but IT WON'T SELECT. I have to go over to the properties list and scroll though it looking for the object in question. I find it and select it from the Properties list. The screen re-positions the object to the bottom of the screen and I have to scroll the screen to see the other object I'm tring to align it with. I try to re-position it again, unsuccessfully. I try to select it again, unsuccessfully. I go back to properties and scroll through, looking for it. I find it and select, it re-positions it to the bottom of the screen. I have to scroll the screen again. I try to re-position it, unsuccessfully. I went through these INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING steps about seven times before I gave up on manually repositioning the object and decided to try using the Position Property.

It was greyed-out and inaccessible.

This kind of problem makes Dynamic HTML Editor 2.3 VERY DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH. Although your product has some nice features, I don't think I can tolerate going through this kind of frustration with it.

Update: I had lunch, then came back and tried experimenting with what might be causing this "Inaccessible Properties" bug. I opened a new document and tried creating various objects and editing their postions and dimensions and that was fine. So I tried inserting my site template as a Dynamic HTML Editor file object and tested it again, and it was fine. So I went back to my original document where I wasn't able to access the position and dimension properties, and found that I was able to access them. I have no idea what fixed the problem, but for now, it is working. There is still a problem there though that disables access to the position and dimensions properties, and I think you should look into that.

Davide, can you help me out? I can't figure out why the following html code does not work. It's supposed to create a table with a tiled image background. The table appears okay, but the tiled image does not show up. Thanks for any help you can offer.

<TABLE WIDTH="596" height="680" BGCOLOR="#C6EFF7"
BACKGROUND="files/onetilefade.gif" BORDER="3" CELLPADDING="8"
CELLSPACING="1">
<TR>
<TD WIDTH="596"
<IMG SRC="files/onetilefade.gif" BORDER="0">
</TD>
</TR>
</TABLE>

I've checked the source code; in the properties window I never disable the position/dimension button so it is ALWAYS enabled.
Note that the position and dimension properties can be changed only using the position/dimension button.
When you open the Layer Properties window you can change the left/top properties only if the object can be moved or you can change the width/height only if the object can be resized.

I think that the automatic guides work good; if you want a perfect alignment you have to disable the "Snap to Grid" property and enable the "Use Automatic Guides" because the "Automatic Guides" don't align the object to another object if the "snap to grid" is enabled.

>I find it is not in the correct position. I click on the object again, but IT WON'T SELECT.

Be sure to click on a blank place in your page and NOT into a container. Dynamic HTML Editor gives major priority to mouse click over pre-selected objects so if you have a big object and a small one over it and the big is selected by clicking you'll select always the big one!

Yes,the button is always enabled, but the position and dimension values in the Layer Properties window were disabled.

Why would you prohibit me from moving or resizing an html object? [2 ?:-|] In this case, I was prohibited from moving or resizing input fields -- surely that should be permitted? This problem actually surfaced for just about every type of html object: rectangles, images, input fields, etc. I couldn't duplicate it, so I'm not sure what is causing it.

You can lock size and dimensions of objects by using the edit menu/lock. If you haven't locked your objects, please send me the page that is experiencing problems and give me a complete list for reproducing your problem ;-)
